Addendum

(This post is an addendum to my previous anniversary post.)

Okay, I was avoiding answering the question, but if you're not so good at math it will be okay.

How many years, you ask?  Four

Hmmm....

And how old are those twins again?  Three and a half.

Yup.  14 weeks pregnant, with twins, on my wedding day.  And the stinker of it all was that I couldn't even have a drink to celebrate (don't worry, I've made up for it over the years).  And if you want to complement me and  lie  then clearly you have forgotten THIS.

We're so blessed.  We truly are.

Happy Anniversary

Happy Anniversary Patrick!

I'm proud of our journey.

Let's keep going...

Remember how cool our cake was?

Love you honey.

Bossing Around

A certain serendipity happens when people come together, people who have taken the next step in this Blogging world.  It helps when you have a certain sort of Bossy inspiration.

We began as six strands on a tiny little thread, gingerly webbed together through a cyber sort of version of Kevin Bacon's 6 Degrees of Separation.  As the night went on, drinks were served, food was consumed, and guards let down, one could feel the thread gaining strength.

A lovely quilt hung behind us, one I kept meaning to ask our hostess Katydidnot of its origin.  As I reflect on the evening I can't help but see these kinds of friendships as little squares pieced carefully together on our own human quilt.

Once the cameras were put away and shoes were kicked off,  the connection grew square by square.  A sudden glance through the picture window may have displayed a group of women bound by years of friendship.   Although we are not bound by time, circumstance brought together some inspiring honest talk.

We missed our friends who had pathetic excuses couldn't make it and hope to keep the network going.

Bossy left me inspired with ideas of a personal litmus test.  I know I will reflect on this as days and years go by.

Katydidnot may not know how deeply her own story has touched me.  I'm loving her thoughts on knowing it all.  "I don't know, I don't know, I don't know.  So wait, until you do know."  Who says we have to know it all.  Right.  Now.  Oh, darn-it.

I don't think it was necessarily the margaritas.  I suppose there's something about being on a couch with the best listeners a woman could hope for that gets you to spill.  I suppose I did some of that, um, yup.

Aaryn joined in some spilling.  The kind that makes you respect a woman, her story, and her journey ahead.  Her infectious story-telling is probably the way she greets everyone, although I like to think she made it extra punchy for us.

Jenn might just be the best little kitchen person I've ever been privileged to share a meal with, all while lending expertise and showing the shiny side of things with a capital H (wink).

Deb has that quiet strength, the kind that nods and leans at all the right parts, then spits out a piece of power hiding within.

I suppose by the night's end, when glasses were gathered, purses were found, and sleeping beauties lie in adjacent rooms, I drove away feeling grateful for human connections.  The wispy thread that brought us together earned some tensile strength.  I hope this thread continues to grow, to wrap, and to connect these women and others.

We came together for Bossy.  Dare I say, we'll stay together for the journey.  And just as a hand-made quilt, there's always room for more squares.

Who Can Break the Spell?

Once upon a time there was a Girl who enthusiastically read novels at bedtime.  She stacked these books neatly by her bedside, spines facing outward, and promised them that one-by-one they would be loved.  She told them she would smile at them, laugh with them, and even shed tears that dripped tenderly onto the pages.  She would make tiny little dog-eared corners at the tops and bottoms to bring her eyes back for future visits.  She told those books she loved them.  She told everyone she loved her books.  Her husband started to wonder if she loved those neat stacks better than him.  Sometimes the Girl whispered to her books that she did.  The Girl loved her books so much that she put them on special bookshelves, organized by author and genre, and even grouped them together by color occasionally.  She couldn't bring herself to borrow a book from the Library, for fear that the book would feel less-loved.  She wanted to purchase them, to hold them forever, to lend them out and see how happy they were when they were returned home, to their special shelf.

One day the Big, Bad Laptop made its appearance into the Girl's home.  The Big Bad Laptop was sleek and pretty.  It made little beeps, tones, and pictures.  It introduced her to the Villain of the story, we'll call her Mrs. Blogh (with an "h" to protect the innocent).  The Girl set aside her pretty books, but just this one time, she told them.  The books pouted on her nightstand for the night, but they knew she'd be back.  They knew her love for them could not be replaced.

But the next night The Girl toted her Big Bad Laptop to bed.  She lifted the top, smiled, glanced at her husband, and became enrapt in a new world.  A world that one measly little book could not offer, for the Big Bad Laptop offered hundreds, and millions of stories.  And it weighed much less than hundreds of millions of books.  The books got sad.  They never knew they had to worry about their weight.  They pouted some more, and began to weep.  Unfortunately the Girl did not notice their weeping, for the dust collecting on these books hid their tears.

The days and nights went on.  The stack next to the Girls' bed grew.  She made more promises.  I'll be back.  I'll visit you, and you, and you ... but she kept forgetting.

And so, as with every classic Fairy Tale, not the Disney kind the Brothers Grimm kind, the Villain wins, and the Big Bad Laptop sweeps the Girl away.  They fall in love.  They make little Blogh babies and they live in a dark forest far, far away.

The End

Unless ... the sweet and quiet strength of those books happen to pull the Girl out of her spell.  Could it be?  Could they forgive her, invite her back, show her how to balance life, family, hobbies, and Mrs. Blogh?  Maybe the Girl needs something from the Self-Help section.

Take The Quiz! (Leave The Wallet)

See this? Can you guess what kind of fun I had spending $67 yesterday?

Let's take a quiz:

Was it:

 a)  a cute little swimsuit to gear up for Spring?

b)  a hot new top to wear out to Bossy's Road Trip this Monday?

c)  a couple of adorable little pair of shoes for some 3 year-old-toes?

d)  a pair of smokin' hot jeans on which I got a great deal?

e)  F*ing Gas to fuel the minivan?

I so wish I could say it was anything a-d.  It's getting rather ridiculous wouldn't you say?  Why couldn't I have had the foresight to buy a hybrid, a Smart Car, a Mini Cooper, or transportation on pedals?

Okay, gotta go drive to the mailbox now.  This is California folks.

Taking Care of Business

As I'm trying to learn Google Reader, keep my kids down for a nap, fold laundry, and balance a fish bowl on an umbrella (wait, that was The Cat in the Hat) I've decided to make time to brag, talk about myself, and brag a little more.  Who doesn't have time for that?  You? Oh, well I'll read it out loud to myself when I'm done.

I'm blushing over my new bling.  Is it a sparkling necklace, a new Hybrid car, an Apple iPhone (hint, hint Mr. Husband) that I must show off today?  Nope, it's better.

It's THIS:

Lindsey at The Douglas Drama   bestowed this gorgeous gem upon my side banner.  Lindsey is a true sweet heart, so it doesn't surprise me that she's handing out the love.  She's a teacher, she's witty, and she's raising some darling Southern girls.  Please pay her a visit.

Okay, so really, I had to ask.  I've seen it before and I really couldn't figure out how it was a compliment to say that you Less Than Three someone.  Less than?  Like I like at least three others better, and then you?  But, duh, no, it's sweet and if you're in the back of the classroom wanting to raise your hand to ask, but you're too damn embarrassed because that cute  dumb jock   guy might laugh ... well, it's a HEART. Ain't that sweet?

I'm passing this lover along to "My Misty."  Misty is my Blog BFF.  I adore her strength and I know many of you are already big fans.  Check her out, but I've got first dibs on her so don't go trying to steal her.

It's also going to Cheri at Blog This Mom!  She is a witty one.  Check her out, but cross your legs first because she often makes me wet my pants.

CAUTION:  More bragging ahead...

I also received THIS sweet thang:

This lovey is from Angela at Angela's Chocolate and Potatoes.  You know my crush on her.  I spilled those beans here.
So I'm passing this one along to Jenn at Juggling Life who is a true blogxpert (that's a Blog Expert for those of you who aren't familiar with my made-up language).  She's been in the Blog World for 100 days today.  That's 100 days of humor, motherly expertise, political rants, and teacher advice.

And Katydidnot as in  Katydidnot get left out of the Wonderful Women award.  This is one inspirational woman.  I love her style.  Her hair style, her smile style, her home decor style, and her 3 smartie pants kids' style.

And finally, Lisa at VeryBusyMomWith4 tagged me with this meme.

Share seven things, according to the tag "some random, some weird."  Check out Lisa, especially how she changed her kids names, all 4 of them, well, sort of.  Funny.

Are you just dying to read more about me today? Wouldn't want to disappoint.

MEME:

1.  I'm still afraid that someone is under my bed.  I take a running leap at night so no one grabs my ankles and sucks me under.

2.  I love being a grown-up.  The best part.  I can eat dessert whenever I want, even for dinner.

3.  I'm have been married twice.

4.  I cry at all Disney movies.

5.  I still type with 2 fingers, 4 on a good day.

6.  I would love for our family to adopt a child some day.

7.  I have 2 tattoos.  I got the first when I was 17, the second when I was 22.

Don't you wish they made Cliff Notes for this?
