Worker dude changed lanes to the left, once, then twice until he was in the fast lane. With him just behind me on the left, I couldn't help but glance in my mirrors at the sight of him. His motorcycle was hardly a "chopper," more a dirt bike on the freeway. His collared shirt peeked through the top of his "biker jacket," and he had a certain awkward posture as he hunched over his bike. Poor schlep, I thought. You should be driving an Accord or another acceptable mid-size sedan.
That's when it happened.
Worker dude went to his hip to remove something. Wha? Could it be? Is he actually? Yup, there was no denying the near-patent thumb-flipping motion of reading his Blackbery, while driving a motorcycle, in the fast lane, on the 5 freeway, oh yeah for three entire miles! No joke.
I swear I was just about to take a picture of him. My camera was on the passenger seat, in perfect reach. But I thought better of being a hypocrite of using such technology while, oh I dunno, DRIVING. You'll just have to take my word for it.

Multi-tasking to the extreme, eh? There can be too much of a good thing.
Just imagining the scene makes my head hurt. He should be on the news in no time as being the biker that caused some sort of serious accident. DOLT!
(Oh, yeah, I broke out THAT word. I save it for EXTRA stupid people.)
Wow. Some people never cease to amaze me.
Oh dear.... (holding head in hands)...
Wow, that seems like a scary sight to me. I still get freaked out when the motorcycles white line it passed me out here.
Hypocrite, schmipocrit. It's much easier to multi-task in a car than on a motorcycle. That's just dangerous. ;^)
That's just nuts!
Heck, I can barely drive and listen to music at the same time.
Crazy.
That is just about the dumbest thing I've ever heard. How stupid!
I call the blackberry my husbands CRACKberry because he so addicted! ON fathers day I got so annoyed while he was driving reading that thing!
All I can say is "Holy Shit"
LOL!!!!!!!! Dude!!! I yell at people talking on the phone in a car (and isn't that illegal in CA now?), but reading email???? I've almost been killed about 4 times by people talking of their cell phones while driving. I've witness a handful of running red lights, totally oblivious to my obnoxious honking, while chatting away...
Whoooaaaa. That is what scares me about all the scooters everyone is buying around here. Just wait till it's a teenager!
That's insane! I might have called the cops on that but then I'd probably get into a wreck dialing :0
HA!!! I love that you were about to grab your camera! Too funny!
Things like this? Terrify me. You cannot do this while driving! Especially on a motorcycle!
I've heard that Blackberry carriers are addicts...but this takes it to a whole new level.
He was just asking for an accident!
He did WHAT?
Thanks for your comment on my latest post. Yup, no worries at all. Stay tuned for more of the same!
It sounds shocking, but at the same time totally believable! Horrific.
There is an epidemic:
It is called:"Crackberry"
When you can not refrain from answering your crackberry while riding a moped, in the fast lane, there is a problem.
I love that you were playing it "safe" while driving...but I would love to see a photo of THAT!
Great story!
Boy am I glad I wasn't sharing a road with THAT guy . . . doofus.
It never ceases to amaze me how many idiots are out there!
OH MY GOODNESS!!
This is so funny, yet so scary all at the same time. YIKES!
Chet is banned from his blackberry on his motorcycle.
Good grief people these days.
BRILLIANT!!!
So, my heart and jaw dropped just picturing this scene! People are idiots. I mean, I'm not perfect when it comes to driving but I'm not THAT stupid!!
Boy oh boy ...
Hope all's well. I LOVE the house. WOW!
some people are unbelievable. :S i couldn't imagine doing anything while operating a bike on a highway, in the fast lane none the less.
i hate seeing people reading anything while they are driving in a car. duh!!
i saw someone get on the high way near my house w/ a 4 or 5... maybe a 6 year old kid on the back of a motorcycle and I thought there HAS to be a law against this... or there SHOULD be a law against that... i was going to take a pic of that.. BUT he was switching lanes too much and then raced off away from us. Crazy. and my heart breaks for that poor kid.
dumbasses.
have a good day!!
xoxoxo's
OMG...unbelievable!
I hope his wife had good life insurance.
Mr. Fix-it has taken to riding his motorcycle to work. He's very safe, doesn't ride in fog or rain, and doesn't even answer his cell phone when sitting at his desk let alone while riding!
What a funny post - I can't believe that worker dude - what an idiot!!
Have a good evening - Kellan
I'm having a hard time believing that it was a worker-DUDE. Maybe a Dudette. Because we all know men have a hard time multi-tasking like that.
DAYUM. That is scary...
Are you kidding me?
That is one of the craziest things I have ever heard. If you HAD taken a picture it would definitely be THE craziest...:-)
I so would've taken his photo - I admit to doing some multi-tasking while driving, but that is THE WORST. You will see him on the news one night...
Silly people on motorcycles give me the willies. But the thought of you taking a photo of someone behind you while you are driving just makes me giggle. =)
That is amazing.
Oh. My. Goodness!
I would have taken his pic, too.
But I lost my camera.
Oh no, I didn't! It's right here.
(The above happens about 5 times a day)

The morning after I 1st read this I saw a biker (no helmet of course) cruising down the road, talking on his phone. Although this is not the 1st time I've seen this, I wanted to take a picture. Just.for.you.
I thought for sure you were going to say "and then he spun out of control and ended up looking like PB&J on the road."
That's just crazy.
just checking in and saying hi.
hope you have a great weekend. :)
