Underwater

I'm dying for a cup of coffee right now.  However, today I can not complain because the kids are BOTH napping.  Like, in their rooms.  But a good cup of coffee would pair really well with sleeping children in the house.

As I sit dreamily on the couch, my mind waves in and out of drowsiness.  My dreams sneak back into my mind, like a trick.  Remember this moment of your dream Jamie?  Yes, I tell myself.  And then it's gone.  Wait, come back, I liked that part.

Lately I've had many dreams of tattoos.  Sincerely, I find the art of them to be quite beautiful.  Now, it may be that I've fallen asleep one too many times with L.A. Ink, or Miami Ink speaking to me, so I suppose my REM didn't get too creative making the HUGE leap to dreaming about tattoos.  But, they do speak strongly to me.

I have two tattoos.  Nothing special.  A small daisy on my ankle that I got when I was seventeen of legal age.  I also have a  tramp stamp lovely fairy on the small of my back.  That one I got when I was around twenty two.

The thing is, I don't even consider myself a tattooed sort of girl.  I rarely think of the ones I have, so why am I dreaming of getting more?  What does it mean?

Lately I've had several dreams of getting a "sleeve."  I wake up disappointed that my artwork doesn't exist.  I dreamt of a gorgeous oak tree covering my shoulder and arm.  I'm sure that would go over really well when I went back to teaching.  And my kids would be so proud, right?

I've also had dreams of getting a mermaid sweeping around my fairy.  First of all GROSS.  I'm not a mythological lover.  I don't live in a world of Science Fiction.  I've never played Dungeons and Dragons.  The fairy is already far enough, but now this.  Why not just plop a Mickey Mouse head or Bart Simpson back there for lack of anything more creative.  So why the mermaid dreams?

In my mind, it's beautiful.  Not like this...

Or this...

Or this...

There's some creepy stuff on Google.

Oh well.  If anyone out there can interpret dreams.  Why is this girl wanting a tree sleeve and a mermaid going around her bottom?  What kind of screwy secret does that say about me?
In the meantime, I've found the perfect mermaid for now...  If only they delivered.

There is some creepy stuff on Google. I like your tattoo. I don't know what it means to dream about getting more tattoos - but it makes for interesting dreams and for fun blog posts.

Have a good evening Jamie - see you later - Kellan

I have no clue what your dreams mean... maybe you want a mermaid to come sweep you and your fairy off somewhere??

hope you got your coffee

I have one tiny tiny tattoo around my hip. I got it when I was 18 during my freshman year of college. That day is a memory I will never forget :) 6 girls having a great day! I often find myself wanting another and I don't know why. I have dreamed about it though. I do however, have the most ridiculous dreams all the time!

Mmmmmm. I like the last mermaid! But they actually just changed her back to the original Pike's Place mermaid from before the global rush of Starbucks.

No idea on the dreams, unless you've been watching Carly on "American Idol"! :)

I wish I could interpret dreams too....although, I'm not sure I'd always want to know what they mean!!!

When you order your Starbucks to be delivered, will you have one sent my way too?!? Thanks!

Perhaps you would appreciate my husband's ink 'cause I do not. It has, however grown on me. Dreams are crazy. I wish I new what they meant! Have a great night. =)

I have NO idea what those crazy dreams are about. Pretty funny though.

I am a tattoo lover as well. I have a tramp stamp too of a.... butterfly (I know, really original) and a star on my foot. I want more too, but am worried about becoming a doc with tats. Seems weird.

You know, I think tattoos are becoming more accepted though.

And P.S. I LOVE Carly's sleeve. Very chic.

Maybe you're looking for some adventure?

Your fairy is cute--and this is from a not a tattoo fan!

Jamie, I am not sure you really wanted to know the answer to your dream interpretation, but I found a Dream website. You just plug in what you dreamed about and it tells you what it means. Not sure how accurate it is, but for your reading enjoyment:

Tattoo
To dream that you have tattoos, represents individuality and the desire to stand out in a crowd. You want to be unique and different from everybody else, particularly if you do not have any tattoos in real life. Consider also what the tattoo is.

Mermaid
To see a mermaid in your dream, signifies the female aspect of yourself that is mysterious and secretive. It may also show a fear of sex. In particular, for a man to dream of a mermaid, it indicates that he is having fears of being drowned by the feminine aspect of his psyche. For a woman, it suggests doubts over her femininity.

Oak Tree
To see an oak tree in your dream, symbolizes longevity, stability, strength, tolerance, wisdom, and prosperity.
To see an oak tree with acorns, signifies a promotion or increase in the social ladder

Enjoy your starbucks!!!

That's one creepy mermaid baby.

I was curious, so I Googled mermaid dreams. One website said dreaming of mythological creatures suggests multiple personalities. Or something like that. :) Dreams are so weird.

Miami Ink and LA Ink put me to sleep too!

Hmmm . . . I just want to say that I have no idea, BUT am always willing to take a wild stab at it.

Maybe you are do to break out and do something new . . . something that ties your past experiences to something new, fresh, and creative. I'm reaching, but it sounds good :)

yeah for naps!!

I am way too chicken to get a tattoo. I have a book about dreams...but it says what Wendi said.

Okay, first of all... I dream of more tattoos too, so you are not alone in that respect. I'm way further than you in that conquest in that I know of two artists in L.A. that I am considering for my next one, which is looonnnggg overdue. I've seen both of their work and it is just amazing! You've seen both of mine and the last one I got was seven years ago.... We've talked about the sleeve thing before too and I would consider a half sleeve if you do in fact plan on returning to teaching at some point. It could always be hidden. I love the idea of the oak tree especially- how awesome! If you want to consider a few really amazing artists to draw out your dreams, let me know....

I say you get the tattoo and a starbucks!

Very cool tattoo that you already have. Maybe something to signify the kiddos??

I liked Wendi's dream interpretations. Nice to have friends do all of the dream research for you!

I was just old enough to miss the "tatoo craze"...oh how I wish I was brave enough to get one...I'd get a flamingo on my shoulder...and the Jimmy Buffett parrot on my hip!! Maybe for my "14th Anniversary of my 36th Birthday"!!

Here's a question about Starbucks...do they have drive-thrus?? Here in Japan, many of them do...one of my students said that there were "many drive-thru Starbucks in America"....hmmmm...strange..you'd think I would have noticed that. Are there any near you???

When you get a tattoo of the Starbucks logo, it'll all suddenly make sense.

I was all set to get a fairy tramp stamp, too. The only thing that stopped me was Britney getting one. I didn't want anyone to think I copied. I'm sure you didn't!

I remember reading a science article about tattoos being addicting. Apparently your body releases a chemical to help combat the pain and that feel good chemical gives you a "rush" and your body craves that rush. This is why I made a solemn promise to myself that I would only do it once. I have often wanted more though.

And childbirth is supposed to do the same thing (which is the only reason I can think for why we want to do it more than once). =)

Maybe the dreams were messages from your body asking for another rush of some sort? Or maybe you just need to watch Care Bears before falling asleep. They are guaranteed to give you freaky dreams.

AS I watch Miami Ink right now (I love me some Ami James), I so get this feeling! And coffee, I am WEEEEAAAK for the stuff. :O

Honestly? I think your dream signifies a part of you that longs to be a bit more like you were prekids. Do you have good memories of the time when you got your tattoos? Maybe you want a bit of that back? I don't know. That's just a thought. I'm a bit of a dream junkie.

I have a tramp stamp too. I love your fairy! Love it! I want another tattoo. I was thinking of getting another one on the inside of my wrist. Not sure what yet. My bro is an amazing tattoo artist so it would be no problem to get it (family members are free!) but I just got to figure out what I want.

I am not a getting a tattoo kind of girl but I am fascinated with the artwork too! Some of the people on those shows are AMAZING artists.

My dreams are out of control lately but I've never dreamed of getting a sleeve. :)

There's ALWAYS coffee here. Feel free to drop by tatoos and all ;)

My cousin has a large tattoo across her back. It is her first, and she said as soon as she got it she wanted another one. She said they are very addicting. I find the tree image interesting...maybe you could look online and see if you could find what you are dreaming of? Maybe it is pointing you toward something. I've been toying with getting one every once in awhile, but I can't settle on one image. I'm afraid once I get one I'll wish I picked something else instead. So right now I use the temporary ones! :)

I want one! Just a tiny little thing on my front lower hip. Maybe a flower, or a cross? But DH says NO!! Any idea how to get him to change his mind??

Reading this particular post of yours feels like yet another omen steering me toward a tattoo...

I had thought about it long ago when my husband got one, but chickened out. Then I began secretly thinking about getting one and suddenly people started asking if I had one. So I've begun pondering it again...And one of my design choices has always been daisies around my ankle. Hmmm.

Tell me it's totally painless :)

I know what you mean about the coffee.
Or maybe you just want the feel of the needles. Just kidding
