Dumbo

A certain little birthday girl and birthday boy just turned one whole hand's worth of 1-2-3-4-5! Holy Moly. Five?!

Maybe it's the nostalgia of creating family five years ago. Maybe it's spending the day at "The Happiest Place on Earth." And maybe I'm just all kinds of mixed up and wacky. Maybe.

Or maybe, maybe our divorce will save our marriage.

There's a certain comfort in being a family of four. There's a certain peace in being able to communicate better now, than in the past months...years. There's a certain insanity when an (ex) husband and wife share dating stories with one another.

Although there are no certain answers, we have found a way to continue to grow. As individuals. As a couple. For this, I am grateful. Grateful and entirely crazy. Who knows what will be ahead. But damn, I could really use a map right now...
...'cause I'm feeling kinda Dumbo.

It's A Small World After All

We went to Disneyland this week to escape the realtor caravan.  We've only been once before and "It's A Small World" was closed.  This time, we raced there first, and fortunately it was open.
What a treat that ride is.  And what a fantastic message to our little (and big people) it conveys.  Going through each world seeing different ethnicities and cultures on sweet little singing dolls (albeit cliche) somehow gets me teary-eyed.

It kind of reminds me of John Lennon's "Imagine."  For those of you who need a reminder (sorry in advance, it *will* get stuck in your head...)

Written by: Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman
It's a world of laughter
A world of tears
It's a world of hopes
And a world of fears
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all

There is just one moon
And one golden sun
And a smile means
Friendship to ev'ryone
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide
It's a small world after all.

How true is that?  So simple.  So beautiful.  The ride serves as a reminder that children of the world will always seek global peace.

The Happiest Place on Earth...

...is actually a little scary. We braved the crowds, but didn't realize we'd have to brave the rides, too. Fortunately, Disney employees gave us "the magic flashlight" to help ease little 3 year old fears. Hugs from Mommy, Gran, and Uncle Henry helped, too.
Daddy was like one of the 7 Dwarfs whistling at home while he worked, "Hi-ho-hi-ho, it's off to work" he goes. I think the rest of that song goes something like, "to pay the bills for a day at Disney hi-ho-hi-ho-hi-ho-hi-ho."
