Appetizer Anyone?

While my husband was slaving away working this evening, I decided to take the kids out for dinner.  With the upcoming move, we've packed nearly everything, and going grocery shopping only means more stuff to move.  Given the contents of the pantry/fridge I realized I wasn't really in the mood for pudding sandwiches, or teddy graham soup.

The kids were doing pretty well.  They waited patiently for an entire 3 minutes, and only then proceeded to get antsy.  So they did what kids (my kids especially) often do:  They went under the table.  I have to admit, I was in one of those spaced-out moods.

Chase:  "Mommy, how do you say dinner in Spanish?"

Me:  "Mmm-hmmm.  That's great."

Tatum:  "How many more minutes until my pasta is ready?"

Me:  "Mmm-hmmm.  That's great honey."

Chase:  "Mommy, watch me blow bubbles in my milk."

Me:  "Mmm-hmmm.  That's great honey."

Tatum:  "Mommy, I found Play-Dough under the table."

Me:  "Mmm-hmmm.  That's nice hon-

   Wait.

   We didn't bring Play-Dough.  It wasn't Play-Dough.  It was ...

For crying out loud.  People really do this?

In Tatum's defense we have a strict rule in our family that they can not chew gum until they are four (more on that philosophy another time), and it really did look like bright orange Play-Dough.  But Eeewww!

Dare I ask, what gross things have your kids found?

Eeeewwwwww . . . at least they didn't try to eat it! They didn't, right?

Isn't sticking your gum places like that so, I don't know, 80s or 90s?

Oh, no. I can be thankful that they didn't eat it.

I am cracking up about the "Mmm-hmmm. That's great" part of this post.

I remember well...trying to grocery shop or pay bills or whatever and you three kids (especially your brothers) would be talking to me (NON-STOP) all at once... Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom... I just couldn't do 9 things at once, so I would do the same thing. "Mmm-hmmm. That's great honey. Go ahead and eat the playdoh."

P.S. And you are all happy and healthy. Right?

@Misty -- Bird Poop?! Why does that make me laugh so hard?

Oh yeah, and one of mine had a snail in their mouth once, too. We're not even French. :)

Fortunately, I have not yet caught my toddler eating anything too gross (give us time, it will happen). But my youngest BIL totally picked up some gum off the ground at Disney World when he was six and stuck it in his mouth. Did I mention it was stepped on gum? It was.

OMG. That is so nasty! I wish I was I could share a disgusting story about my own children, but they are pristine 100% of the time. Sorry.

Ha!

Gross! Gross! GROSS!

I totally loved your "spaced" out answers. I am guilty of giving those answers myself.

Gross, gross, gross! I have gum issues and prechewed gum tops them all.

One of the many heart stopping, nasty things my kids have done is showing me the "whistle" one of them found on the ground at the park. She was wondering why it didn't work. Uh, maybe because it wasn't a whistle but a cigarette filter thingy. Nooooo, GET IT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH!!!!!
